Prologue
My ears cocked up as soon as i heard the bus growl
to life in the distant.
I urged him to walk faster but as usual he
maintained his pace .I knew that if I missed this bus then I would have to stay
put another day, which I didn’t intend to.
So, I cursed him under my breath and tugged at the
bag that we both carried and tried to sprint. The bag which carried my possessions
of this semester thwarted this attempt. I realized it was heavier than what I
expected it to be. He signalled me to wait by putting his hand in the air. I
waited for a few seconds.
Then I realized that he wouldn’t increase his pace .I
mouthed some expletives, and again took off in the direction of the bus.
The bus was about to leave when I reached the bus
stand tired ,out of breath and still cursing him. With one hand I lifted my bag into the bus and got into the bus with the other. I ignored
the cursing driver and a few passengers who had just viewed my acrobatics and
tried to locate him. He had been a few meters away when I had last seen him but
now he was nowhere in sight. The conductor urged me to take a seat .
I nodded my head in agreement. He was still nowhere around.
I cursed myself for having given him the laptop bag. I shouldn’t have trusted
him.
Suddenly the bus came to an abrupt halt. I grabbed
the handle on the conductor’s seat in order
to stop myself from falling.
WHAT NOW.
As I tried to regain my balance I saw him standing in
front of the bus smiling sheepishly. Ignoring the cursing conductor he entered
the bus and handed over me my bag. i playfully punched him the stomach, we
shook hands and then embraced each
other. It was a scene out of the Bollywood movies of the 80s.
I soon realized that if we continued with our
melodramatic drama, we both would be thrown out of the bus.so I bade him to get
off the bus and he hurriedly got off.
I now turned myself towards the rear side of the bus
and located a window seat. I hurried towards the seat while my eyes tried to
locate him. He was standing near the chaiwala where we usually had our morning tree.
He was still smiling I noticed.
As the bus gathered speed. I looked at him for one
last time and with my hand gave him a salute(not the military one, mind you).
I settled down in my seat and closed my eyes.
Where would I again get to meet a guy like him.
A guy like DEKA…………..

well, the initial impression that one gets from the prologue is that,it is going to be one hell of a college ride with ample doses of highs and lows which will keep the readers hooked on,all I can suggest humbly is to make sure that there aren't too many characters and the plot is kept simple as one tends to over board being a first time writer.Though the premise & the plot adhering to your own college experience can bring in just the right amount of suspense drama & thrill that one can hope for, carry on..waiting for the future posts!
